FOOTHILLS OF KILIMANJARO - SINYA

Experience the remote wilderness and colorful people of sinya, a private wilderness reserve on maasai land, at the foot of mount kilimanjaro. Your stay will be at kambi ya tembo, a small permanent tented camp, the only one in the reserve, with spectacular views of the mountain. Enjoy day and night game drives, guided walks led by maasai warriors and visit the local maasai village and market.

DAY 1 - ARUSHA / SINYA

Today after breakfast you will be met at your hotel in Arusha and depart for a remote area in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro called Sinya, a private wildlife reserve on 135,000 acres of Maasai land. Flood plains, hills, acacia woodland and a memorable landscape of Mt. Meru and Longido Peaks give life to one of the most beautiful, pristine, wild areas of Northern Tanzania. This is the arid land of Sinya, one of the few areas in Africa where huge Elephant Bulls, more than 50 years old, carrying tusks of considerable size, are regularly seen. These bulls, some of them living permanently in the zone, together with herds of mothers and calves, migrate from Amboseli National Park to Sinya in search of water and food. Because of their familiarity with safari vehicles in Amboseli (Kenya) , they allow you to approach them at very short distances, allowing for excellent photographic opportunities. Most of them have been monitored by Cynthia Moss in Amboseli for more than 25 years and form one of the healthiest and most balanced Elephant populations of the whole African continent.

The Maasai in Sinya still live in the traditional way and follow all the traditional ceremonies. They are very friendly and unexposed to the commercial relationship with tourists that is common in other more visited areas. The land is leased from several local tribes, so your stay here helps preserve the area for the wildlife and generates funds for schools and other needs. You will have opportunities to be led on wildlife walks, visit the Maasai villages and market, and participate in ceremonies if the occasion arises.

While in Sinya you will spend three nights at Kambi ya Tembo, a small luxury tented camp that looks directly at Mt Kilimanjaro and is the only facility in the reserve. Activities while at Kambi ya Tembo include game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, bird watching and walking safaris escorted by Maasai warriors. Today you will depart in the late afternoon on an evening game drive returning in time for drinks around the camp fire with the enormous African sky overhead. Excellent meals are served under the trees or in the dining tent.
Overnight - Kampi ya Tembo (lunch, dinner & activities)

DAY 2/3 - SINYA
You have two full days in this incredible area, going on guided walks, early morning, day or evening game drives. Spend your time as you wish and discuss your next days activities with your host and he will make all arrangements necessary. Overnight - Kampi ya Tembo (all meals & activities)

DAY 4 - SINYA / ARUSHA

This morning set out on an early morning game drive, returning to camp for a late breakfast. Afterwards you will be driven back to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. From here you will stay in Arusha, before catching your flight home, or continue on to your next safari destination.
